Does this sound familiar?
"knobbly rock gives a firm footing even when damp. Flake handholds are found in abundance but their tops are thin and friable, take care. The route is not at all serious but height is gained with interest. The craglets follow in quick succession with little walking between and can be varied at will.
Start at the second of two outcrops- a short pocketed slab. walk left to larger slabs, .... climb either side of a recess .... straight up an easy angled slab. Climb a steep flaky wall at the right end of the next outcrop. A rib leads into a deep groove in the block above. Ascend a slabby rib on the left then go diagonally left to below a steep face. Go left along a rock ledge ( beware of goats) to easy spiky rocks. Just above, an outcrop is climbed by a smooth groove to emerge on the right. Climb the spiky ridge ahead onto the pryamid -shaped rock so notieceable from the base.
Where the ridge levels out to merge into the fellside go left below the crags. Climb the edge by a shattered rib. Broken rocks continue for a considerable way up the fellside, go left for best route, a short chimney with earthy footholds, a corner crack, a face and a crack with a difficult start. Above this the rocks fizzle out onto the summit slopes of the Old Man." R Brian Evans (1990) "More Scrambles in the Lake District, Milnthorpe Cumbria, Cicerone
Has any one done it? I've never been able to find it but there again I didn't have the book with me.
Take care and read Brain Evans' advice if you are not experinced in such excursions. (or even if you are)
