I thought you may be interested in the (re-)emergence of Pemmican in South Eastern Pennsylvania. There is a chain of convenience stores in our area (SE Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey) called Wawa. there are hundreds of these little stores and they stay open 24 hours and sell everything required for human existence.

Lately these stores have been prominently displaying large packs of Pemmican. It is an appalling, dried beef jerky and comes in several flavors including BBQ, hickory smoke, and traditional.

I asked the manager of my local store about this and he said he did not know why they are now stocking this. It's come from head office. But, he said, the product is selling well and has a significant price mark-up. He said it is popular with truckers mostly.

I received the usual strange stare when I tried to explain to him my enthusiasm for depression-era British children's books. So I gave up.

If anyone is intersted in trying this product, email me on my regular address (bma@maskell.com) and I will have some shipped to you, or perhaps sent by pigeon post.

Brian

ps. Wawa is a town where the company originally had it dairy - and still does. Wawa means "goose" in the local native American dialect.
