A Harry Griffin writes in the Guardian of 4 June, "Most of the high fells ..... will be opened this weekend and, at long last, much of our freedom of the fells will be restored. Where should we go for my first real walk, after months ..... I think it will be the Coniston tops, a favourite corner since boyhood, with - if I feel up to it at 90 years of age - a walk along the airy top of Dow Crag where I began my rock climbing exactly 72 years ago. [He then provides a mouth watering description of his route and the views from it, almost concluding with:] I can't think of a more stimulating return to the fells - an airy tramp along a rocky ridge that I've known since boyhood, with peeps across to the roof of England." Turners, Blacketts, Walkers Ss, As and TARs all agree: and I wish and envy A Harry and you fine weather - and not TOO much of a crowd.
