‘Freudian . . .importance . . .what is left out’ Well yes, and of course in Ransome terms something Very Fundamental was left out. I was reminded of it when pondering over your ‘Wildact Island’. You remember the chap who doesn’t like initials pointing out that Nancy doesn’t use initials for places like Wildcat? Of course not, because she would have to say ‘W.C.’ No way. She could, I suppose, simplify it to ‘W.I.’, but that would conjure up surreal pictures of the Amazons making jam. And Beckfoot would be ‘B.F.’ and Octopus Lagoon ‘O.L.’ Just a thought.
