I have to agree with Duncan. In 1957 I wrote to AR to ask "Where are the locations in the Swallows & Amazons books?"; and he replied
Mainly Windermere but some things have been stolen from Coniston and carefully jumbled for the sake of keeping secrets. I think that says it all!
