I don't know whether its just my old computer or I'm not doing it properly, but I haven't used the 'threads' thus far, rather just looking at 'recent messages' and replying where they particularly excited my interest. I thought I'd detected a hint of irritation in a few followups to questions about the locations, but if that's not the case I'm pleased, because one can't help but be fascinated by it! Of course, in the long run, Ramp Holme isn't wild cat island - it doesn't have a harbour (though it has a perfect landing place, right by the camp...) and is not rocky or 'cliffy' enough... As such, those that warn that the real places are not there tobe found as they were written are quite right. I agree Windermere must be squashed (!) but we must remember that the lake was 'as a big as a small sea' and 'beat Breydon' and could be seen like a ribbon of water from the train... Not to mention that when walking from Swallowdale to Beckfoot they could see water glinting from another lake to the West... But of course, for many people the lake is Coniston - and in many ways (not least Kanchenjunga, and the secret harbour) it is.
