Curiously I was asked about this subject today on the way back from Buckler's Hard on the Beaulieu river - the final event of the Southampton AGM.
Apparently many publicity photos were taken for the 1974 film (several of them are in the Brotherton Library, but last time I looked were mis-filed under BBC 1963 film). One of the photo days was extremely cold, hence the extra 1970s clothing - unfortunately the publicity department continued to take shots with the modern clothing and didn't think to reject them!
