I'm trying to pin down a quotation. If my memory can be trusted, AR once wrote -- in a letter to a friend, commenting on the proliferation of fast motor launches -- that "the faster they make their boats, the smaller they make the lakes." I've searched my copies of Hardyment ("Captain Flint's Trunk") and Wardale ("Nancy Blackett") without success. Can anyone help me, either by giving the full and correct text of the quotation, or by pointing me toward its source?
