If we are going to be picky, we could eliminate lots of names, "Dick", "Peter" and even "John" plus several others I can't think of now. I find Titty to be one of my favorite characters in the series. She is sensitive, intelligent and quite resourseful. I have all the Godine reprints that have come out and plan to give them to my grandson in a few years (he will turn 5 in a week). I don't remember having any snickers about the name when I originally read the books when I was 11 and 12, even though that was the time of discovering the "joys" of seventh grade "humor" (snicker giggle). Maybe we are bringing too much of our own grown-up non-sensablities to the scene.
