My boy did a bit of a splurt when he first heard the name, then quietly and calmy recalled that his own name is sometimes shortened to "Dick" (we hadn't met the *real* Dick at that point) and since then has had not a moment's difficulty with it.

We're up to Picts and Martyrs and I was just wondering what on earth we were going to do with our evenings when he mentioned that once we've finished Great Northern? he expects us to read the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings again! On another tangent - I credit Ransome's books with turning my boy from a resistant, determined, bad tempered, sullen, stubborn, non-reader (months of hospital and missed school at a crucial time) into an eager, enthusiastic, confident, persistent reader. One holiday, he and I set out to read S&A, him reading first a paragraph every now and then, then building up to (now) him reading every third page.

And I'm glad I finally found you all again! Internet connection problems, being flat out at work and TARboard's disappearance all made for a huge hole in my life...

Nina
