According to the Amazon.com website, Arthur Ransome wrote (and/or illustrated?) one of the stories, “Post-Mortem” I think, in “Annual Macabre, 1998” edited by Jack Adrian; the second annual of out-of-print supernatural tales from Ash-Tree Press.
Other stories are by Somerset Maughan, John Buchan (their stories said to not be listed in their bibliographies), Ford Madox Ford, E.C.Bentley, and Hilair Belloc.
He also has two books “Russian Fairy Tales” (Everyman, 1995)
and “Favorite Russian Tales” (Dover, 1995) listed as avaliable.
Presumably from “Old Peter’s Russian Tales” but are they just
retitled versions or edited or condensed versions?
In the Godine editions several books have subtitles:
“Peter Duck: A Treasure Hunt in the Carribbees” and
“The Big Six: A Novel” (just in case you didn't know).
