I understand that some TARS members didn't get a change to read the
messages about the terrible events in the United States. Here is my
message again.

The tragedy in New York and Washington has nothing to do with the
purpose of this website, but perhaps we can be excused this once.
am a Canadian and yesterday I witnessed the day of mourning in Canada
and the United States. I thought perhaps the three minute silence
ould be something like the two minutes silence every 11th November, w
hich most people ignore. But this was different. All over the country
people stopped what they were doing and stood in remembrance, sorrow
and prayer. In offices they stood by their desks in silence, in
shopping malls, in garages, in shops, in schools - everywhere they
stood silent. Even in the far north, the Eskimos stood quietly wiping
their eyes, although many of them had probably never seen an American
flag before. In Ottawa, 100, 000 Canadians and Americans stood side by
side and for three minutes there was silence - complete and utter
ilence. Then a Mountie sang The Star-Spangled Banner. About 100
Canadians worked in the World Trade Center and are now missing.
Over most of the world, people observed some form of memorial, so
deeply has this terrible act affected us all.

I am reminded of Admiral Yamamoto's words when he contemplated the
destruction the Japanese air force had inflicted on the American fleet
at Pearl Harbour, "I fear we have awakened a sleeping dragon and filled
him with a terrible resolve." This time the forces of evil have the
whole world to deal with.
