Posted by Malcolm Temple on September 30, 2001 at 18:39:26 from 148.176.238.165:

To my excitement this weekend I found a 1932 edition of Swallowdale (Clifford Webb illustrations) in near immaculate condition.

The earliestI had before was 1939

I have been delighted to find that prior to the title page and ships papers there is a page and a quarter titled "For Those Who Have Not Read Swallows and Amazons"

This givesthe plot to date and, vitally for me, states:

"Afterwards, of course, The Swallows had to go south for school, but in the Christmas holidays, Captain Flint chatered a wherry on the Norfolk Broads and they spent a week in it with him, Amazons and Sallows together, planning what they would do next summer and making up a story about an old sailor and a voyage to the Caribbees"

Lovely to find something new to yourself, if not others.

Can anyone help with:

Did AR Write it?

When (which edition) was it dropped?

Out of interest another dealer at the Book Fair had a first of P & M in excellent condition at £72
