YES. GPS can and does work in reverse but the GPS must have a radio built into it. TARboarders may have seen the virtual ocean racing graphics, ie Americas Cup and Volvo Challenge. The graphics work by the GPS sends signals (at regular intervals , sometimes 5 per second, sometimes a few per hour depending on the software etc) to a central processing place which relays the info via a graphics package.

Another use of GPS is in vehicle security, where if a car has a GPS unit fitted with a radio device, the owner can tell exactly where his/her car is at any time, and also by using the radio device, can perform functions such as imobilising the vehicle, sounding the horn or flashing the lights,.......perfect for those times in the supermaket car park when you cant remeber where you parked the car.
