'm very grateful to all those who have responded to this query, both
on TARBOARD and on the excellent Mudcat forum. The general consensus so
far is that 'Amsterdam' is 'A-roving' (a song that I know as 'In
Leicester Town'). I suppose we must imagine that Captain Flint insisted
on cleaned-up lyrics being used at the party in Houseboat Bay, though I
ike the idea of the Swallows and Amazons bawling out the full,
uncensored version when parents, and Great Aunts, and above all, their
child readers, were looking the other way. There seem to be a number of
candidates for 'The Whale', including 'The Greenland Fishery' and 'Paddy
and the Whale' It's great news that 'Salt Beef' has been tracked down
n New Zealand: I suspect that there may be other TARBOARDers who, like
me, have not seen the NZ newsletter, and would also like to see the full
text of SB on TARBOARD. Possible?

For the time being (I hope) I can gain access to incoming e-mail only
erratically, so I apologise to any TARBOARD surfers who have written to
me personally, but have not yet received a reply. These computers,
dontcher love 'em?

Tim

(PS I'm hoping that this gets to TARBOARD OK this time, and that Ian can
delete the two postings that came adrift)

All now ship-shape - Ian
