A TarsCanada member submitted a favourite line to the last issue of our newsletter North Pole News. His choice was identical to Robert Thompson's -- the softly falling snow. It is, of course, purely coincidence that Robert is sent North Pole News!

I think one's answer has to depend on whether one is thinking of a sentence that one finds intrinsically beautiful (like the falling snow) or one which conveys a meaningful message (like not being sorry for might-have-been). In the latter category I would nominate the classic telegram: Better drowned than duffers.... I have often had to remind myself of this when one or more of my daughters wants to do something with a perceptible component of danger (almost everything these days).
