A word or two of explanation for my first choice...
An American friend pointed to the meeting in Flushing and “that mans insufferably stiff upper lip” to try to prove his contention that the English have no emotion.
I tried, and failed, to explain that Commander Walkers actions and words express more raw emotion than (almost) any other book I have read… he didn’t get it.
