How did SAD's pronounce Rio, and which Rio Grande is it?

I have been having this discussion with another S&A fan. She thinks they would have said Rye-o, not Ree-o, and she thinks teh port in Brazil is the Rio teh Swallowa named their Rio for. I think it is more likely to have been the one in Venezuela, in Tierra del Fuego. Any opinions/references?
