Last night (New Year’s Eve) I had a phone call from Pauline Marshall*. She wishes all her friends in TARS, and in fact all Ransome-lovers, a Happy New Year. I am glad to say that Pauline has now had the metal pins removed from her leg, and has been up in a Microlite. She intends to fly one herself (from Carlisle) before long. I should remind you that Pauline is an elderly lady! Despite being so active, Pauline does have to spend a fair amount of time on her own, so I would urge any friends of hers to contact her – she will be glad to hear from you, particularly at this time.
*In case anyone doesn’t know, Pauline was almost certainly the visual model for Peggy Blackett, and was part of the Coniston social scene when the Altounyans were there. She was related to Emma Holt (the model for the G.A.) and is the author of 'Where It All Began'. She certainly has the Blackett spirit!
