Don't you think that most films are terrible after reading the book? I suppose they can't include every detail nor can they creep into your mind and find out just how you in particular saw each character. I've seen Harry Potter and while I applauded the casting of Hermione and Snape, I was somewhat disappointed with Dumbledore and Ron. And they restrained Maggie Smith too much.Her character is far more acerbic than they let her be. But then...they don't know how I saw her.
I expect LOR to be much the same - after all - its a human who filmed it - not an elf!
