Listen to Radio 4 next week at 3.45. You'll hear Gill Bilski, Rosemary Auchmuty and me on Thursday discoursing on the Chalet Club (we had a day out in Hereford looking for Elinor Brent-Dyer's), Barbara Penrose -a Leicester Tar - on Wednesday on the I-Spy club, and other worthies talking to Richard Coles on the Puffin Club, the Young Ornithologists and the Famous Five Club on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.
They were investigating people who belonged to children's books fanclubs in the 1960s and 1970s, so sadly no TARS, but they really have done their research well, and it looks as if it is going to be a Jolly series.
All this, and Roger Wardale's stuff in search of Swallows and Amazons on Radio 4 in April. A new golden age of kidlit!
