In Australia, in Sydney at least, a "Bunloaf" had dried fruit and sometimes peel, it was a sweet bread often covered with pink icing and sprinkled with ground cinnamon. Delicious after school with butter and a cup of tea. I think you can still buy them at bakers shops.
They were always a bit more expensive as they had to be bought so a normal afternoon tea would have scones and some form of plain or fruit cake which could be made at home and didn't require yeast.
