A CD has just been issued in the UK of piano and chamber works by Cecile Chaminade (1857-1944). In last Saturday’s Telegraph (UK) review, it was said: ‘This is a joyful record. The music of Chaminade has been neglected . . .her songs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which absorb influences from different styles in vogue at the time, are written in a curiously elusive but insinuating manner that easily encompasses moods both serious and flippant.’

‘Joyful’, eh? Perhaps the Great Aunt's musical tastes weren't so bad after all! And by the way, at the risk of being chewed up by P.E., I never realised that Chaminade was female. Right on, G.A!

(The CD no is: DG 471331-2)
