I've always thought that, and was quite surprised when I read the usual line that they didn't grow up at all. I'm quite convinced that they do. The Horseshoe Cove thing mentioned earlier is a good case in point - I never doubted for a moment that John and Nancy were more-or-less 'going out' with each other by GN. They're forever vanishing off somewhere or other together. The most obvious change, however, is the change in the adult's reactions to the children. By the end, the older ones are NOT children and I think this is very clear. I don't think anyone should be surprised that there weren't elongated passages about one character 'fancying' another character: it would have added little or nothing to the books and would - and perhaps this is a surprising thing to say - lend them a rather more infantile feel than they have.
