The pigeon Roger released at Strickland Junction was Sophocles. It may be presumed that Homer was released at Strickland earlier by John and Susan, as Sappho was released just before departure at Rio pier.
It may have been thought that the journey from Strickland Junction to Beckford was not one where you would want to depend on Sappho.
