The Armenians are one of the oldest Christian communities in the world.
The Middle East is not monolithically Muslim, especially in countries like Syria and Iraq, there are large Christian communities and many Palestinians are Christian. We shouldn't be too surprised, the whole religion started off there and spread to the West. Some of them stayed behind and Muslims, unlike some Christians, were relatively tolerant of other faith communities.
