Yes, the Great Aunt is a good example of a character developing almost 'organically' without outside help (although that, of course, is what a good writer causes to happen). She grows from a stereotype into a 3 dimension not-all-bad person. The way in which she and Nancy have more or less swopped roles at the close of PM is masterfully 'real' and also quietly humorous (one of the reasons, I suggest, why AR's books can be enjoyed by adults).
