I am intrigued that Tadeus gave his address as
Emmanuel College, Cambridge. My uncle Dick Johns
had in 1928 just left Emmanuel and gone to work
for the Palestinian Antiquities service: while
there he got to know Ernst and Dora, though
whether this was in Jerusalem or when he went to
Syria to look at crusader castles I don't know. I
suppose he could have been given Ernst's name by
Tadeus as someone to look up (though, sadly, it is
probably now too late to check this ...).
