I grew up with Little Black Sambo(indeed my son Sam is called Sambo often, and not just by me), and the 'n' word was just one of those things.
I don't use it or even particularly think of it now, find the editing of older books rediculous, but at the same time, realise that modern texts should use the social mores of modern times.
