Some years ago I was doing a geological survey in farming country in New South Wales. As i entered one farm, the farm's Hereford bull walked out of the main driveway gate, which was open. When I arrived at the house, I knocked at the door to alert someone to the bull's departure. No answer. I could see through a window that the lady of the house was asleep on a sofa. I called back later, and told the lady that I had tried to knock her up to tell her about the bull, and she gaily replied "Oh, you're too late; I'm already knocked up!" [i.e. pregnant]
