Pure predjudice perhaps, but it's that phrase: " A wise man once said" that kills it for me. Turns me off before I even look at it. Who was this wise man..? If he was so special, why hasn't he got a name..? Sounds like the prelude to a load of platitudes and pomposity.

Sorry, I forgot one of the first things I was taught - always attribute, and don't editorialize.

The wise man - in my opinion - was Dave Gardner, a "Southern existentialist hip comic" of the 60s and 70s. He had a twisted, cockeyed way of looking at the world that was delightful to experience. For example, "Now, do you really think Washington's Monument looks anything like George?" Or, "There's some folks that thinks higher learning is to get high and learn from it." "Birth control is good to talk about, but as the youngest of 13 kids, I'm glad my parents was ignorant of it." I could go on, but you're already sick of it.
