An observation I'm very fond of is:
"If your only tool is a hammer, you make every problem look like a nail."
I think that's another way of saying the same thing.
Vis "Grab a chance..." the point is really not being sorry for a might-have-been. People seem to dwell on what "might have been" forever, while getting over (or accepting) the choices that they did make. Probably because there's no way of knowing what might have been so they can project anything they want onto them.
