They were on an island and planned to head for the mainland after they had picked up petrol. The port is Stornoway and Scrubbers Bay is somewhere on the coast north of the head that sticks out east of Stornoway.
I gather that the Castle and the lochs are found on the other side of the island where Ransome stayed and went fishing.
