Sunday 16 June: I-SPY Ransome's London

Did you know that Ransome spent over 22 years of his life living and working
in London? That's a quarter of his life! Two of his favourite characters,
Dick and Dorothea, grew up in London. Ransome's Bohemia in London, about the
pleasures of living and working in London, is to be republished by Amazon
Publications. Perhaps we should refer to him as Ransome the Londoner, rather
than Ransome the Northerner!

If you want to discover Ransome's London, then join the Southern Tars on
Sunday 16 June. Ted Alexander will lead us around the Chelsea Ransome knew
and many of the places where he lived. We'll meet at the World's End pub on
the corner of King's Road and World's End Passage at noon for a drink and
there are all sorts of places nearby where people can have lunch. Then we'll
meet again at 2 p.m. at the Thomas More statue outside Chelsea Old Church,
on the Chelsea Embankment between Albert Bridge and Battersea Bridge. The
walk will last around 2 hours and, depending on the weather, end at the
World's End pub.

There will be a special I-SPY booklet for the Juniors to fill. Answer the
simple questions, as you walk round Chelsea with Ted, and earn yourself an
I-SPY reward. (Adults are allowed to play the I-SPY game too, so if you
remember the I-SPY books, or ever wrote to Big Chief I-SPY at the News
Chronicle, or just want to be a Redskin for the day and can get to London
easily, do join in.)

Phone Charlotte Ryton (020 891 6690) or email me at Joy_Wotton@msn.com if
you want to know more.

And, remember, if you see another Redskin, make the Secret Sign. Stroke your
right cheek three times with the forefinger of your right hand.

Can you read my secret message?

odhu/ntinggo!

Big Chief JOY-Spy
