Great Northern? sounds as if it is a first edition. Have a look at the illustration Dick goes off to the lochs. You will clearly see an Amazon pirate sitting watching Dick - but neither of the Blacketts was there, it should actually be Dorothea! AR did not completely redraw the picture for further editions but carefully cut out the offending square of drawing paper and redrew the correct character in its place. Both the final drawing and the small cut-out square are at the Brotherton Library, Leeds University.

To answer Dan's query about AR's medium the drawing is in black ink, as are most of the Brotherton illustrations.
