Duncan,

Your advice about self-publishing was probably aimed at me, as well as
at others. I agree that anyone who self-publishes (new verb?) is taking
an enormous risk. It's likely to be attempted through sheer frustration
than through common sense. I took up Prue's suggestion that I get a
school principal to offer a ms. as part of an English course. The
principal in question, to my surprise, welcomed the idea and so I am to
give him the ms. on diskette He will make it part of the senior English
high school course. The only thing I will get is feedback from a group
of strangers, but this is a pearl of great price. At least, their
comments should suggest ways it could be improved, which should
encourage me (or send me into a tailspin of depression.)
I think the number of writers on this website is an indication of how
many people want to find out the right way to do it.

Cheers, and thanks again for the advice.

John
