I felt a bit shocked when as a small child I read in S&A about the
Amazons using bows with real arrows. At that time I was used to
playing with toy arrows which had a blunt front end with a rubber sucker on it.
I got some consolation later when reading PM, where the postman
describes to the D's his encounter with Nancy:
'And lucky it was,' I says, 'you didn't hit me with that stone.'
'It wasn't lucky at all,' says she. 'I could hit you every time if I
tried, but I didn't.'
