Club hauling is quite different manoeuvre. It is used in emergencies for square rigged ships when you want to tack to avoid bumping the ground but can't due to the strength of wind or handiness of the ship and you can't wear (or gybe) because the hard stuff is too close and you would drift too far down wind.

What you do is come head to wind (or as close as possible) then you let go your anchor and allow it to pull your bow head to wind. Then you cut the cable, and haul your sails and steer in reverse as you make a sternboard. If all goes well you are off on the opposite tack sailing towards open water.
