Aha! Another member of TFES - The Flat Earth Society!

After all my research, up to the standard of any respectable cartographer or geographer, we slip back to subjectivity.

Arthur Ransome clearly tells us the length of Swallowdale, and then goes on to provide the size of The Lake by including this scale on the front page map in Picts and Martyrs.

One of these days someone will suggest AR didn't know the difference between a jib and a mainsail because both are made of canvas.
