I just received (and devoured in one sitting) a book by Roger Wardale titled "Arthur Ransome and the world of the Swallows & Amazons" (2000). When I purchased this book over the Internet, I thought I was buying Wardale's 1996 volume, "In Search of Swallows and Amazons." For those who are familiar with both books, does the earlier volume provide any information about the settings of the stories that the 2000 edition does not?

Also, was Evgenia as shrewish and negative as the book suggests? If so, how did AR survive his second marriage? And, too, can the lack of emphasis on the Walker family be traced to the growing estrangement with the Altounyans?

At any rate, I thoroughly enjoyed the book which will probably be as close to the Lake Country as I'll ever get from the middle of the United States.
