I find this matter in much the same way as you, and the Mills and Boon
reference sums it up perfectly. AR did write at least on short story
with a romantic interest. He could thus have written such stuff into
the SA series had he wanted.
The identification of relationships between the adults seems fair,
but as a kid reading Swallows and Amazons I was not in the slightest
concerned with any budding romantic attachments between my heroine
and John Walker. It was quite obvious at the time that she was my type
of girl! Things havent changed much since!
