Thanks, Alan, for the information. I should have said that Dave Sewart used New Century Schoolroom as he considered it a font 'similar' to the font used by Cape. I suspect that Caslon was not available to him.

I have checked with two Puffin editions - one in the late 1960s (with a polychrome version of an AR drawing on the cover) and the other in the 1980s (with cover artwork by Anthony Kerins). On an inside page, both bear the legend 'Set in Monotype Caslon'.
