Hi! I'm new to this board, but I have enjoyed perusing this and the rest of the AR website. I am a teacher in America working on an author unit study on Arthur Ransome. I'm not quite sure how I want to go about doing this, but I want these students to become familiar with and grow to love Arthur Ransome's stories. Few people here have ever heard of him. I thought I'd introduce sailing and some geography of the Lake District and the Norfolk Broads. The unit only covers 2 weeks of the language arts/reading lessons. Anyone ever done lessons like this before and would be willing to give me ideas for activities? I could make this take hours of work, and it is interesting, but I also would like shortcuts, if possible!! :) Thanks for any feedback! I am enjoying re-reading Swallows and Amazons. Just read Pigeon Post for the first time. Read the first six books to my children when they were little. We also spent a week around Keswick, so they saw some of the area then. But these Nebraska students can't do that! I want to make the place alive to them!
