In a recent discussion on another forum (about Patrick O'Brian, my other author of interest), someone mentioned that he had seen a misquotation of the "Better drowned..." telegram. Instead of duffers, the misquoter had used the word "dunderhead". There was some discussion about whether Ransome ever used the word.
I can't recall any such use but I thought I would bring it up here (and maybe Ed Kiser can do a quick search :-) ) to see if anyone else can think of any occasion when Ransome used the word dunderhead.
