I was hoping that Ed's search would coincidentally resolve a discussion point raised during yesterday's trip to Secret Water. I looked up the tide tables which gave the times of high water at Felixstowe and could almost hear John's voice muttering "high water 10 minutes after Felixstowe". Is this pure confabulation, the sort of thing he could have should have would have said? By the way what is the time difference between the Wade and Felixstowe?
We had a great trip thanks to East Anglian Tars for organising it. Walked round Swallow Island discovering that the descendants of the Eels had built a hut of straw and branches on a spit of sand opposite Flint Island. Big enough for a whole tribe. Its construction reminded me of the huts used by by native peoples in Brazil; evidence of Amazonian influences?
We then circumnavigated Mastodon (Skipper Island) in Paul Green's open canoe. We saw 3 of George's descendants, sailed ( paddled) into a field of thistles and followed withy markers through intricate channels. Also spotted an egret, a marsh harrier and myriads of waders etc.
The wind got up again and we surfed ( small surf but surf none the less) up to Witch's Quay and across a wide, wet and windy Wade.
Excellent.
