Then there are the high country hunts such as occur in the Lake District or North Wales, John Peel of the song was such a huntsman. These pursue the hounds and fox on foot and the participants tend to be less well-off.

I think the following quote is quite informative :-

"By degrees, owing to the importation of foxes for restocking certain districts adjoining the fells the true hill fox became infused with this new blood........ It may be safely said that the real old "greyhound" variety is a thing of the past, only seen today staring woodenly from a glass case in the fell-side farmhouses".
