An interesting photo of the dogs leaping over a BARBED WIRE fence without snagging anything valuable (hopefully). I can see the delight in the sport of Hound Trailing; not so the "sport" of fox hunting.

It must have been a fascinating thing to observe, as the Amazons chose to stay around to view such a short moment in the run as the hounds tore through Swallowdale, even though it made them late, again, to be back for a proper meal time with the G.A.

It is with vignettes such as this that Ransome takes us INTO the country and lets us become a part of the culture, dialects, and customs of that place and time.

It has been said that Ransome was blessed with the talent of words to be able to bring to our minds such brillant detailed pictures. But it is really the rest of us that have been blessed with the privilege of receiving those words whose graphics linger a lifetime in our minds.
