Robert, your concern about a replica DJ masquerading as an original is certainly legitimate. I would think, though, that a compromise might be reached for those who simply want something that LOOKS like the original DJ by marking the replicas; perhaps a band across the bottom or top, or something of the sort, to clearly indicate it was a replica.

In the U.S. the national guidelines for restoration of historical buildings clearly state that one should differentiate new construction such that it can be told from original, while maintaining the appropriate theme, to avoid exactly this form of charade. (The classic reference is to the (mythical) George Washington's hatchet, now in a museum. Of course both the blade and the handle have been replaced over time, but it's still the original hatchet...)
