No my reading of AR's notes in COOTS IN THE NORTH by Hugh Brogan would appear to indicate the railway station. But in that I must agree with you as it is at most 5 km and three boys in a hurry could do that in an hour. The other clue is that they could not see the lake for a long time. Does this match the railawy station?
