When I was young, it said on the milk bottle tops - 'tuberculin tested'. There were dire warnings about not drinking unpasteurised milk. BTW, I have just realised that not everyone will know what I mean by 'milk bottle tops'. These were cardboard discs which fitted into the neck of glass milk bottles, sealing them until removed by pressing out a small central disc, then putting one finger in and pulling. And then they were thrown away - except they weren't. They were collected by us small lads, and became almost a 'currency'. All the dairies used different colours. We threaded them on strings, and there was a game where you propped a top against the wall and another boy flipped another top at it. If he hit your top, he could keep it. Otherwise you kept his. Does anyone else know what I am talking about, or am I going daft in my old age?
